Happy Birthday Grandma!

Today would have been my Grandma Elda's 74th Birthday!  She's been gone for 5 years now but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her and miss her!

I was lucky enough to grow up right next door to my Grandpa and Grandma!  When you're young this is a real bonus especially when your brother or parents are driving you crazy! :)  I could be at her front step in about 30 seconds!

We spent time on bike rides, taking walks to the church and back, and I spent hours sitting on her kitchen counter watching her stir up cookies, pies, and rolls.  We also loved watching game shows!  The Price is Right, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune were our favorites.  I dare say, no one could solve a puzzle faster than Grandma!

She was so thoughtful too!  She would send a card to let you know she was thinking about you or to tell you she was happy that your lost dog returned! (I got that card when I was 27...and it had a 2 dollar bill in it!)

As I got older, she became my first call...you know the person you call first when your having a bad day, when you get engaged, buy your first car, or find out you are going to be a mom!  She was my best friend!

I know she is always with me...shaking her finger when I don't clean up my dishes right away, smiling when the kids are naughty, and beaming with pride when they do good!

Happy Birthday Grandma!  I love you, miss you, and can't wait to see you again someday!

  1. I've been getting my e-mail reminders to send her a birthday card. Is it strange I just haven't had the heart to cancel them? I want to see them, want to remember, somehow sad and comforting all at the same time! I still remember the night I got engaged, she was the first one I wanted to tell after my parents, not even sure I told them first, may have gone straight to her house. The second she opened the door she knew. Before hello she said, "Let me see it!". What a great memory. Happy Birthday Grandma Elda!

  2. I still have all her emails to me. I have even kept the last Christmas gift she gave me, a Nebraska sweatshirt that is getting ratty from so much use. I will never get rid of it. Even thought of using it in a quilt if it gets so ratty I can't wear it anymore.
I miss her every day. She left us too quickly, too soon. What a sweet post, les. Thank you!
